Maintenance Engineer II Full Time

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Maintenance Engineer II to join our facilities team. The location for this position is on the island of St. John. The ideal candidate will possess extensive technical expertise in maintaining and repairing a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Under direction performs a variety of work in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities and equipment. Performs skilled work in one or more of the building or craft trades, for development towards a specialty, in painting, carpentry, plumbing, cement masonry, dry wall, machinist, or other recognized craft trade and to participate in the upkeep or repairs of machines, mechanical equipment, or structures. General instructions and supervision are received from an administrative or technical employee and/or assigned supervisor. This person assumes responsibility and accountability for the duties of the position and is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Schneider Regional Medical Center and the Maintenance Department.

Responsibilities

• Maintains day-to-day operations and assumes team responsibility for maintaining the physical asset of the property under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Within a specified trade, performs skilled maintenance work, repair, and alteration of facilities.
• Estimates work tasks and needs (materials) and communicate same with supervisors; documents all work through work orders.
• Repairs, modifies, fabricates, installs and maintains building structures and equipment to provide safe conditions for building occupants.
• Inspects facility systems to determine condition of facilities and safe operation of equipment.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance and ensures that building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
• Communicates orally and in writing notifying supervisors and user groups of building conditions.
• Performs painting, varnish, stains, enamel, lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of the hospital, using paintbrushes, rollers, scrapers and sprayers.
• Reads and interprets work order request, sketches, diagrams, penciled layouts or blueprints, operating or repair manuals in order to perform assigned tasks or troubleshoot situations.
• Skilled in laboring tasks to include drywall repairs, plastering, painting, assembly, installation, moving, minor tile repairs, etc. Utilizes power, hand or pneumatic tools, and measurement devices to maximize abilities; both inside/outside of building structures.
• Plans and accomplishes assignments from start to finish, with emphasis on job specifications, schedules, minimum interruption, and other instructions.
• Maintains all reports and logs according to departmental policies and procedures.
• Reports promptly all malfunctions of equipment, or other irregularities to appropriate personnel.
• Performs specific job duties during emergency codes (code red, pink, silver, gray, etc.).
• Works alongside or in conjunction with Contractors; ensures all safety or contractor violations are in compliance.
• Disposes of hazardous waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal laws and regulations.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.Experience
• Proven experience in facilities maintenance within manufacturing or industrial settings with a focus on electrical work, mechanical systems, plumbing, and HVAC repair.
• Demonstrated ability to read schematics, technical diagrams, and blueprints for troubleshooting complex systems.
• Hands-on experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), electrical equipment repair, and the use of hand tools for various repair tasks.
• Supervising experience is preferred; capable of leading small teams or projects effectively while maintaining high safety standards.
• Familiarity with CMMS software for work order management and maintenance tracking is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of building interior maintenance practices including carpentry, painting (including residential painting), plumbing system repair, and general facilities upkeep.
• Excellent communication skills in English for clear documentation and effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
