Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Full Time

Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) serves as a cross-functional support partner in an outpatient oncology setting. This role is responsible for supporting clinical care, laboratory services, and front desk operations to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality patient care.

The LPN assists with patient intake, basic triage, provider support during clinic, specimen collection, and coordination of patient flow. This position also supports front desk operations and administrative functions as needed.

Flexibility with work hours and work location, including support at the St. Thomas practice, is required based on clinic and patient care needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Support & Patient Coordination

• Obtain and document vital signs, patient history, and visit updates
• Room patients and prepare exam rooms for clinical visits
• Perform initial patient intake and basic triage, identifying urgent concerns and escalating to the provider or Registered Nurse in accordance with established protocols
• Support patient flow and assist with prioritization of care needs throughout the clinic day
• Assist providers and nursing staff during patient visits and procedures within scope of practice
• Reinforce patient instructions and care plans as directed by the provider or RN
• Communicate patient concerns, symptoms, and changes in condition to the clinical team in a timely manner
• Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring appropriate supplies and readiness for patient care

Laboratory & Specimen Collection Support

• Perform venipuncture and specimen collection in accordance with clinical protocols
• Perform peripheral IV insertion
• Properly label, process, and prepare specimens for transport to external laboratories
• Coordinate with laboratory vendors (e.g., LabCorp) for specimen handling and tracking
• Maintain laboratory logs and ensure accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
• Monitor and restock laboratory supplies and ensure equipment readiness
• Adhere to infection control, safety standards, and regulatory requirements

Front Desk & Administrative Support

• Greet and check in/check out patients in a professional and welcoming manner
• Verify patient demographics, insurance, and required documentation
• Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments
• Answer and manage incoming calls, route messages, and assist with patient inquiries
• Scan, upload, and maintain patient documentation within the EMR system
• Assist with medical records requests and coordination of documentation
• Support overall clinic workflow to ensure efficient operations

Safety, Compliance & Professional Practice

• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
• Adhere to all HIPAA, infection control, and workplace safety policies
• Participate in clinic huddles, team communication, and operational discussions as needed
• Maintain current licensure and required certifications
• Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism while supporting multiple areas of the practice
• Float between clinical, laboratory, and administrative functions and between practice locations, including St. Croix, as needed

Qualifications

Required

• Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the U.S. Virgin Islands (or eligible for licensure)
• Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Proficiency in phlebotomy and peripheral IV insertion
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced outpatient environment
• Willingness to work flexible hours and across practice locations, including St. Croix, as clinic needs require

Preferred

• Prior experience in a medical office, oncology, or specialty practice
• Experience with phlebotomy, patient intake, and front desk workflows
• Familiarity with EMR systems (OncoEMR preferred)

Physical & Work Requirements

• Clinic hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Schedule may vary based on patient volume, clinic needs, and provider schedules

• Alternate between desk-based and clinical responsibilities throughout the clinic day
• Stand, walk, and move within clinical and administrative areas as required
• Lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
