Reports To: Lower School Dean

Position Description:

GHCDS Teacher Aides provide academic and behavioral instruction and support for students in Nursery through Sixth grade as assigned. They work collaboratively with the designated teacher and other colleagues, attends various events and meetings as required, and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Assists the teacher(s) in all aspects of curriculum delivery and classroom management.
• Instructs individual/groups of students with guidance of the lead teacher(s) and the Lower School Dean.
• Participates in planning and instructional strategies and behavior modification programs.
• Constructs, selects, and maintains instructional materials and behavior reward activities.
• Formulates lesson plans for students based on skills initiated by the teacher(s) and implements approved instructional strategies.
• May assist in administering, scoring, and recording of assessment instruments.
• Confers with the teacher(s), the Lower School Dean, counseling and learning support personnel, and administrative staff on student progress and concerns.
• May participate in school-based staff development activities.
• May participate in parent conferences and school staff meetings.
• Assists the teacher(s) in preparing and adjusting schedules.
• May utilize various technologies in work-related activities.
• May participate in crisis intervention techniques.
• Escorts students to and from classes as needed for student participation in all activities.
• Assists with school activities (lunch, recess, field trips).
• Adheres to a daily schedule and assignments.
• Adheres to the provisions of the GHCDS Employee Handbook.
• Adheres to the high standards and the expectations of ethical behavior delineated by the National Association of Independent Schools’ Principles of Good Practice.
• Serves as an ambassador to students, parents, employees, and other members of the school community.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Lower School Dean and other teachers as assigned.

Essential Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma; some college coursework and/or a bachelor’s degree preferred.
• At least three (3) years of experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
• Ability to function well in a team and be a good role model for students, parents, and school personnel.
• Basic knowledge of elementary and early childhood education and child development.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills; and strong organizational skills.
• Creative and practical problem solving skills.
• Flexible and can work with minimal supervision with integrity and good judgment.
• Must be able to perform the physical duties of the position on the GHCDS campus.

Work Schedule, Compensation, Hiring Process:

• Work Schedule: 8:15 AM to 3:45 PM, plus occasional additional hours, if assigned.
