School Counselor

The Good Hope Country Day School Counselor, in alignment with the GHCDS mission, provides a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes students’ academic success, social-emotional well-being, college and career readiness, and personal development in a safe, supportive learning environment. The counselor reports to the Head of School and works with students, families, teachers, administrators, and outside service providers to help create a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide individual, group, and crisis counseling services to students

· Deliver classroom guidance lessons and social-emotional learning support

· Supports our Advisory program

· Assist students with academic planning, goal setting, and progress monitoring

· Support transitions between grade levels and school settings

· Help address attendance, behavior, and student support concerns

· Consult with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies

· Maintain accurate records, referrals, and counseling documentation

· Conduct age-appropriate social-emotional, behavioral, and risk assessments and develop intervention plans when appropriate

· Coordinate referrals to outside mental health providers, educational specialists, and community resources, and collaborate with those providers as appropriate

· Develop and implement student support plans in collaboration with families, teachers, and administrators

· Support faculty and staff through consultation on student social-emotional and behavioral needs

· Interpret and maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with applicable privacy laws and school policies

· Contribute to professional development by providing resources or training on student mental health, behavior, and social-emotional learning

· Collaborate with the College Counseling Office to support students’ social-emotional readiness for postsecondary education, careers, military service, and independent living

· Other duties as needed/assigned

Qualifications

· Master’s degree in school counseling, counselor education, or a closely related field

· Valid U.S. Virgin Islands school counselor certification/credential or eligibility to obtain it

· Eligibility for or possession of a USVI professional counseling license

· Strong communication, organization, confidentiality, and problem-solving skills

· Ability to work effectively with students across multiple developmental stages

Experience

· Experience working in a Pre-K through 12th grade school setting

· Experience with academic advising, student support services, family engagement, and crisis response

· Familiarity with counseling records, student intervention teams, and school-wide support programs

· Cambridge International familiarity is helpful but not required

Pay: $60,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
