Position Summary
Tropitech Solutions is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and perform advanced electrical engineering work across commercial, industrial, renewable energy, controls, battery energy storage system (BESS), generator, and microgrid projects. This role combines senior technical leadership with a practical, construction-oriented focus and serves as a technical resource for project management, field service, supply chain, clients, vendors, consultants, and junior engineering staff.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead electrical design and engineering packages for power distribution, service equipment, feeders, branch circuits, grounding and bonding, generators, controls, PV, BESS, and microgrid systems.
· Prepare and review single-line diagrams, schematics, panel and equipment schedules, specifications, calculations, technical reports, redlines, and as-built documentation.
· Perform or review load, voltage-drop, conductor-sizing, short-circuit, overcurrent-protection, equipment-selection, and grounding calculations and assumptions.
· Provide technical review for NEC, utility, client, project, Tropitech, and local authority-having-jurisdiction requirements before work is released.
· Coordinate engineering scope, schedules, field information, procurement constraints, RFIs, submittals, change support, commissioning, and closeout with project teams.
· Lead or support site investigations, field engineering, startup, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
· Identify technical and constructability risks early, then recommend practical options that protect safety, quality, schedule, and budget.
· Review vendor quotations, technical submittals, equipment data, substitutions, bills of material, quantity takeoffs, and long-lead procurement risks.
· Mentor engineers, designers, interns, and technical personnel through clear review comments, coaching, standards, templates, and lessons learned.
· Develop resilient, serviceable solutions suited to island logistics, salt-air exposure, hurricane-prone environments, and client operational needs.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
· Significant practical experience in electrical design, electrical construction support, field investigation, or project engineering.
· Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the ability to apply code concepts to practical, constructible designs.
· Ability to prepare and review electrical drawings, calculations, specifications, equipment schedules, technical reports, and field documentation.
· Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent engineering/design software, plus Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project/Planner, and Teams.
· Ability to coordinate multiple projects, competing deadlines, technical priorities, field questions, and client/vendor communications.
· Strong written, verbal, technical, and client-facing communication skills, including the ability to mentor junior technical staff.
Preferred Qualifications
· Professional Engineer license, Engineer-in-Training certification, or an active path toward professional licensure.
· Experience with solar PV, BESS, generators, automatic transfer equipment, controls, automation, energy management systems, and microgrid design.
· Experience with commercial, industrial, utility-interactive, islanded, or resilient power systems.
· Experience with power-system, coordination, or arc-flash studies, or managing qualified outside consultants performing these studies.
· OSHA, PMP, LEED, energy-management, commissioning, or related technical certification.
Leadership and Core Competencies
· Demonstrates calm technical judgment, ownership, accountability, and clear communication.
· Provides actionable review direction and verifies closure of technical comments.
· Works effectively across Engineering, Project Management, Field Service, Supply Chain, vendors, utilities, consultants, AHJs, and clients.
· Maintains a strong commitment to safety, quality, documentation, constructability, and continuous improvement.
What Success Looks Like
· Delivers assigned engineering packages on schedule with strong review quality and minimal major technical errors.
· Escalates technical risks before they affect cost, schedule, permitting, inspection, safety, or client expectations.
· Produces timely field reports, technical responses, and organized, traceable project documentation.
· Builds junior staff capability and contributes practical standards, checklists, and renewable-energy or microgrid knowledge.
· Demonstrates readiness for expanded technical leadership as the Engineering Department grows.
Professional Development and Advancement
The position offers exposure to utility, industrial, renewable energy, microgrid, controls, and infrastructure work; participation in client-facing and multidisciplinary projects; support for continuing education and professional licensure; and a potential advancement path toward Engineering Manager, Engineering Department Lead, or another technical leadership role based on business needs and demonstrated performance.
Compensation and Benefits
· Competitive salary based on experience.
· Performance-based bonus opportunities.
· Health, dental, and vision insurance.
· Paid vacation and holidays.
· Professional development and training support.
