Safety Manager Full Time NEW

Haugland Group, a privately owned Long Island, New York-based civil infrastructure and energy construction company, has an immediate opportunity for an experienced safety professional in our USVI, St Thomas and St Croix territories.

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, highly organized individual to join the Environmental Health and Safety team to provide safety support to our construction project management teams and ensure compliance with all regulations.

Key Functions:

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, local, and corporate environmental, health, and safety regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture.
• Provide safety support to the project team.
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in EHS performance and operational practices.
• Conduct frequent safety and environmental inspections/audits of facilities, yards, and job sites.
• Complete weekly safety meetings (toolbox talks) with employees and subcontractors.
• Assist in the development of site-specific Health and Safety Plans, Safe Work Plans, Job Hazard Analyses and Tailboards.
• Investigate all near misses, injuries, accidents, property damage, and environmental incidents, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable, Federal, State, Local, OSHA, MSHA, and environmental regulations.
• Interact with project managers, supervisors and workers to identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices.
• Identify safety, environmental, and operational risks and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Observe tasks as they are being completed to provide support and ensure safe practices.
• Maintain EHS compliance records, inspections, audits, and regulatory documentation.
• Conduct monthly environmental inspections and audits of facilities and job sites in St. Thomas and St. Croix, including ride-alongs with drivers and field employees.
• Identify chemicals, safety risks, and environmental hazards at HM sites, and implement measures to reduce hazardous chemical use and mitigate related risks.

Desired Qualifications:

• Must be able to travel. Over 50% of travel is required for this role.
• 3+ years of experience with electrical utility construction (underground and overhead transmission, telecom, etc.) safety and work practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in safety, Construction Management or a related field preferred.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and environmental compliance regulations.
• Experience in human performance and error reduction.
• Experience conducting compliance audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action management.
• Maintain certification, accreditation, and compliance programs, including OSHA 10 T&D, OSHA 30, OSHA 500/MSHA, and Voluntary Protection Programs, as applicable.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and standard computer applications.
• Display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner. Able to follow verbal and written instructions with little supervision.
• Ability to identify problems; determine accuracy and relevance of information; use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.
• Effective communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.
• Must be able to pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license.
