Ready-Mix Plant Supervisor Full Time

The St. Thomas Ready-Mix Plant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the ready-mix concrete plant, including safety, production, quality control, equipment reliability, employee supervision, customer service, and financial performance. This role ensures safe, efficient, and profitable production and delivery of high-quality concrete while supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Essential Job Functions

• Supervise and develop staff in ready-mix manufacturing, including daily production planning and scheduling, production equipment setup, plant operations, and facility coordination.
• Oversee concrete quality including batching accuracy, slump, air, yield, strength performance, moisture control, and calibration.
• Supervise daily production, inventory, material availability, and plant housekeeping.
• Supervise ready-mix drivers and plant personnel, including scheduling, coaching, compliance, professionalism, attendance, and delivery performance.
• Back up plant personnel in batching, quality control, and plant operations as needed
• Coordinate with maintenance to support equipment reliability and preventive maintenance compliance.
• Address routine customer service issues promptly and escalate significant issues as appropriate while supporting sales through reliable service.
• Monitor plant costs, overtime, material usage, and waste; identify variances and support management in controlling operating expenses.
• Maintain or exceed on-time delivery commitments for the ready-mix product line.
• Support and implement process improvements that increase labor utilization, plant and equipment productivity, service quality, and customer satisfaction.
• Ensure day-to-day compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, safety, environmental, and internal policies, procedures, and initiatives.
• Train and coach personnel on the proper use of equipment and resources and reinforce compliance with established policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, construction, engineering, operations, or a related field preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of ready-mix, construction materials, manufacturing, or industrial operations experience, including at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Supervision: Proven ability to lead, coach, schedule, and direct hourly employees. Makes routine operational decisions within established procedures and escalates significant staffing, budget, disciplinary, or policy matters to management.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, safety rules, technical instructions, delivery information, and basic reports. Ability to communicate clearly with employees, customers, vendors, and management and to document routine operational issues.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform practical calculations used in ready-mix operations, including percentages, quantities, material usage, yield, production totals, and basic cost or variance calculations.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve routine operational problems, prioritize daily work, respond to changing production and delivery conditions, and know when to escalate issues requiring management review.
• Other Required Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office software; strong organizational and time management skills; must be able to maintain confidential information.
• Scope and Responsibility: Responsible for supervising day-to-day activities related to ready-mix concrete production and delivery operations.

Physical Demands.

• Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
• Ability to work in an industrial environment with regular exposure to cement dust, aggregate dust, diesel exhaust, loud noise, moving equipment, and outdoor weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and uneven terrain.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility vest, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

Work Environment

The incumbent is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
