Position Summary
Tropitech Solutions is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Engineering Department and own its technical workflow, priorities, deliverables, and continuous improvement. This role ensures electrical, renewable energy, controls, battery energy storage system (BESS), generator, and microgrid engineering work is accurate, timely, constructible, and aligned with company, client, code, utility, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the Engineering Department and maintain clear visibility of active tasks, priorities, deliverables, due dates, constraints, and technical risks.
· Assign, coordinate, and track drawings, calculations, specifications, submittal reviews, RFIs, field reports, engineering changes, commissioning support, and closeout documentation.
· Oversee preparation and review of single-line diagrams, panel schedules, conduit and wire schedules, equipment layouts, details, redlines, and as-built documentation.
· Review load, conductor and equipment sizing, voltage-drop, overcurrent-protection, grounding and bonding, equipment-selection, and other electrical design assumptions.
· Maintain documented design-review workflows, CAD and calculation standards, checklists, technical decision logs, document-control practices, and interdepartmental handoff points.
· Coordinate technical requirements and timely decisions with Project Management, Field Service, Supply Chain, Accounting, vendors, utilities, consultants, AHJs, and clients.
· Support project kickoff, planning, estimating, procurement, installation, commissioning, closeout, warranty, and service activities with practical engineering direction.
· Plan or perform site investigations and require complete field documentation, including photos, measurements, open questions, recommendations, and traceable follow-up.
· Lead engineering support for PV, BESS, generators, transfer equipment, controls, energy management, and islanded or utility-interactive microgrid systems.
· Mentor engineers, designers, interns, consultants, and subcontracted technical resources while building department capability, accountability, and review quality.
· Identify and escalate safety, code, constructability, scope, cost, schedule, permitting, inspection, and long-lead procurement risks before they affect execution.
· Develop resilient, serviceable, and cost-effective solutions suited to island logistics, salt-air exposure, hurricane-prone environments, and client operational needs.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience acceptable to company leadership.
· Strong practical experience in electrical power distribution, electrical construction, design coordination, installation practices, field investigation, or troubleshooting.
· Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the ability to coordinate applicable local AHJ, utility, client, safety, and project-specific requirements.
· Ability to prepare and review electrical drawings, calculations, specifications, equipment submittals, vendor documentation, estimates, field reports, and technical correspondence.
· Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent design software, plus Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project/Planner, Teams, and related project tools.
· Demonstrated ability to lead multiple active projects, competing deadlines, staff priorities, field questions, and client or vendor communications with limited supervision.
· Strong written, verbal, technical, leadership, and client-facing communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Professional Engineer license, Engineer-in-Training certification, or an active path toward professional licensure.
· Experience with solar PV, BESS, generators, automatic transfer equipment, controls, automation, energy management systems, and microgrid design.
· Experience with commercial, industrial, utility-interactive, islanded, or resilient power systems.
· Experience preparing or reviewing estimates, proposals, RFIs, submittals, change-support documents, commissioning records, and vendor technical comparisons.
· Project management, OSHA, LEED, PMP, energy management, commissioning, or related professional certification.

· Engineering priorities, deliverables, due dates, risks, and ownership remain visible and are updated consistently.
· Engineering packages are issued on schedule with strong review quality, documented review, and minimal major technical errors or avoidable rework.
· Project teams receive timely, constructible, code-aware technical decisions and organized, traceable documentation.
· Field reports, RFIs, submittals, engineering changes, and technical support requests are completed by their required due dates.
· Technical and procurement risks are escalated before they affect cost, schedule, permitting, inspection, safety, material release, or client expectations.
· Engineering standards, checklists, templates, lessons learned, and staff capability improve as the department and project portfolio grow.

Pay: $117,000.00 – $149,200.00 per year
