Job Summary

Norton Lilly International is seeking a highly motivated Marine Boarding Agent to join our Port Operations team. This position plays a critical role in coordinating all aspects of vessel arrivals, departures, and port services. The Boarding Agent is responsible for customer service, regulatory compliance, documentation management, and communication with vessel operators, port authorities, terminals, and government agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Vessel & Port Operations

• Board vessels daily while in port to represent the company and support vessel operations.
• Coordinate vessel arrivals, departures, and port call activities to ensure efficient turnaround.
• Assist with planning and scheduling weekly vessel rotations.
• Communicate regularly with vessel Masters, owners, charterers, terminals, and port authorities.
• Coordinate required vessel services and vendors for assigned port calls.
• Monitor vessel activities and proactively address operational issues.

Customer Service & Agency Coordination

• Serve as a primary point of contact for principals, customers, and vessel personnel.
• Respond promptly to customer inquiries in accordance with company policies and operational procedures.
• Maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, terminals, and government agencies.
• Deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced maritime environment.

Documentation & Regulatory Compliance

• Prepare, process, and maintain vessel documentation accurately and on schedule.
• Complete governmental and agency documents required for vessel arrivals and departures.
• Coordinate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Immigration authorities, Coast Guard personnel, and other regulatory agencies as required.
• Maintain organized and compliant vessel files and operational records.

Financial & Administrative Support

• Assist with vessel billing procedures and cost tracking.
• Support preparation of port cost estimates and vessel call budgets.
• Assist with pro forma requests and operational follow-up activities.
• Manage vendor services with a strong focus on cost control and service quality.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) policies and procedures.
• Maintain compliance with all company, customer, port, and government regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications Required

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance in accordance with state requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.

Preferred

• Associate degree or coursework in Business, Logistics, Maritime Studies, Transportation, or related field.
• Previous experience in vessel agency, maritime operations, shipping, logistics, supply chain, transportation, or port operations.
• Knowledge of marine transportation, vessel documentation, customs procedures, or terminal operations.

Working Conditions

This position requires both office and field work in a dynamic maritime environment. Employees regularly work outdoors and onboard marine vessels in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and rough seas.

Physical requirements include:

• Frequent walking and standing for extended periods.
• Climbing vessel gangways and ladders, often exceeding six feet in height.
• Bending, stooping, crouching, and climbing in confined spaces.
• Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
• Exposure to vessel operations, mechanical equipment, elevated noise levels, and industrial environments.

The successful candidate must be comfortable boarding vessels during all operating conditions and making multiple visits to ships during their time in port. Long hours, after-hours calls, travel, weekend work, and a 24-hour on-call rotation may be required based on vessel schedules and operational needs.
