Community Service Officer (Police Cadet Graduates Only) (VIPD-STX) Full Time

DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

Directs and controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic at emergency or other congested traffic situations.

Coordinates and facilitates various programs, functions and open house events relating to crime

prevention.

Identifies, documents, preserves, and collects evidence at crime scenes if needed in support of other personnel; perform photography duties as requested.

Maintains contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserves good

relationships with the public.

Handles a variety of duties to enforce specific sections of the US Virgin Islands vehicle codes and ordinances; proactively patrols to enforce parking codes and regulations by issuing warnings or citations as applicable; have vehicles towed as required; advises the general public on laws and regulations affecting parking.

Provides traffic control including at traffic accidents, crime scenes, fires, funerals, special events,

and during power outages and weather-related incidents.

Oversees assigned programs and functions; assists with other volunteer programs including Police

Cadet and Explorer programs.

Provides information and assistance to the departmental staff, general public, other law enforcement agencies, violators, businesses, school communities, and other departments and agencies regarding citizen inquiries, complaints, requests for services, codes, laws, ordinances, departmental services, programs, and practices.

Provides station tours as requested.

Handles a variety of clerical and administrative functions in support of the Police Department, provides training to new personnel related to area of assignment, attends committee meetings, and assists with special projects as assigned.

Fingerprints citizens for employment, background, and licensing.

Maintains various logs and records, gathers information, prepares routine reports as assigned, enters, inputs, and retrieves a variety of information using a computer terminal.

Performs the duties of a School Crossing Guard as needed in accordance with the law.

Directs school-aged children to and from school at designated crossings or intersections, and directs the flow of traffic to assist senior citizens, pedestrians, and tourists to cross the street.

Testifies in court when necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.
